After a quick email exchange with the Pioneer DJ sales division we were able to receive an official reply from Pioneer DJ – the Pioneer DDJ-400 has been officially discontinued.

The news that the Pioneer DDJ-400 has been discontinued are going around for quite some time now. The problems regarding the supply chain and the already long life of the product both have most probably contributed to the Pioneer DJ’s decision to discontinue the DDJ-400 DJ controller.

Although on the official Pioneer DJ website the DDJ-400 is still present in the up-to-date and supported DJ gear category, it’s likely to enter the legacy gear category in days to come.

What about the updates and support?

For now, the support for the Pioneer DDJ-400 is still continued, the only difference being that new units are not being produced anymore (updated: 08.11.22).

It’s likely to continue for some time, although it’s almost a given that a few months from now the replacement parts for the DDJ-400 devices will become a lot more scarce.

The latest version of the DDJ-400 firmware available on the official Pioneer DJ website was released on 09.03.2021 – this is likely to be the very last update.

“Quite a reasonable prediction here would be that the Pioneer DDJ-400’s legacy will be continued in some form, perhaps with a new entry-level device inherently compatible with Rekordbox & Serato DJ software.” – was our prediction just a few weeks ago! Turns out we were right!

For a reasonable price it offered all the tools that a novice DJ could utilize to learn the art of DJing. The DDJ-FLX4 attempts to do all the things that the DDJ-400 was capable of, with a few neat twists!
